Fall Interior

Homeowners are constantly turning to home improvements to ensure their living spaces are as aesthetically pleasing and enjoyable as possible. Interior trends are constantly shifting, and with the colder weather coming in, many homeowners are looking to make changes to their homes for the coming autumn and winter seasons.

With this in mind, the experts at MyJobQuote.co.uk have teamed up with various experts to create this list of the biggest home trends homeowners can expect to see in 2023. Below, we will go over these trends in detail and provide some tips on how to best incorporate these trends into your living space.

Sustainability and Eco-Friendly Designs

Sustainability has been an increasingly popular trend this year, and it shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon. Homeowners are shifting from traditional construction and interior design towards the use of more sustainable products in all areas. Recycled and natural materials will reign supreme in the coming months, with an additional emphasis on organic, raw and natural finishes.

Environmentally friendly furniture choices, such as second-hand furniture, locally-sourced furniture, and pieces made from natural materials such as cork, wood, stone, and rattan. Make good use of places where you can find second-hand materials and furniture pieces, such as charity shops, antique shops, and online marketplaces such as eBay and Facebook Marketplace. In order to avoid waste, consider some ways in which you can upcycle your current furniture pieces.

Bold Colours

Muted and neutral colours have been very popular over the past few years. However, this autumn is seeing a shift towards more bold and daring colour choices. Interior designer, Nick Taylor at Sleeping Expert, says, “This fall, we’ll see a lot of rich jewel tones, such as emerald green, ruby red, and sapphire blue.”

“These colours can be used to create a dramatic statement in a room, or they can be used more subtly to add a touch of colour to a neutral palette,” says Taylor. If you want to create a dramatic statement, you could consider painting the walls in these colours. For smaller, more subtle touches, consider adding some bold accent pieces such as curtains, cushions, throws, or ornaments.

Wellness and Serenity

After the stress of the pandemic and with the cost of living crisis preventing people from being able to go out as much, homeowners have been shifting their focus to creating home sanctuaries. This shows no sign of slowing down in the coming months as people continue to seek spa-like, cosy, and comfortable spaces. Music-themed rooms and crystal rooms have become very popular. With homeowners wanting to turn their living spaces into a sanctuary, there is a higher demand for products that promote calmness.

Spa-like bathrooms are taking the lead when it comes to this trend. Natural wood and other nature-inspired textures are a big part of this trend. As are soothing green palettes and blues to mimic natural waters. A serene bathroom provides a great place to relax and unwind. Candles and essential oil diffusers can be used in all areas of the home to help promote this calmness and wellness.

Earth Tones

As we’ve mentioned, bold colours are a big thing this autumn. In addition, earth tones are also making big moves in the interior design industry. “As the leaves change and nature’s palette transforms, we’re welcoming earthy colours back into our homes. Warm browns, deep greens, and bright terracottas are making a triumphant return,” says Renae Smith, interior design specialist and founder of Uptown Interiors. “These earthy tones infuse spaces with a sense of grounding and tranquillity, creating a cosy atmosphere that resonates with the changing season”, Smith adds.

Interior designer and CEO of Omni Home Ideas, Brad Smith, also confirms, “Rich earthy tones like deep greens, warm browns, burnt oranges, and mustard yellows are expected to dominate the palette, bringing a touch of nature indoors.” These earthy colours may be found in wall colours, larger furniture items, or smaller accent pieces.

Gothic Influences

The start of autumn means Halloween is approaching very quickly. With this in mind, we will likely see a shift towards gothic-style interior design. Think spooky ornaments and furnishings and moody paint colours. Black accents can also make a big impact during this time.

Searches for goth interior décor trends have increased over the past few years, so it’s looking like it’s becoming a more popular home trend, not only during the autumn months but right throughout the year. If you’re new to the gothic trend, consider simply investing in some small spooky accent pieces that you can dot around your home and then grow from there.

Modern Minimalism

Modern minimalism is a major trend that has been gaining more and more traction in the interior design world recently. It focuses on keeping your living space clean, clutter-free, and organised. “This style can be achieved through simple furniture with clean lines, muted shades of white and grey, and natural elements such as plants or wood accents to soften up space,” says Jennifer Spinelli, interior designer and founder of Watson Buys.

To help keep the clutter at bay, consider investing in some aesthetically pleasing, stylish storage solutions. Floating shelves can help to add some additional storage to your home. Stackable storage boxes in attractive designs are also great for keeping things organised. Also, consider having a sort-out and getting rid of anything that you don’t use or need. You should only aim to keep hold of the items that bring joy.

Greek Influences

Another rising trend this autumn is Hellenism. Homeowners will be looking at including more ancient Greek aesthetics in their homes. Blue, gold and white colour palettes will reign supreme when it comes to this trend. Greek motifs and Greek-style smaller accent pieces will be found in various areas of the home.

Combine the bold blues, golds and whites with terracotta colours to create the overall look. Greek-style bathrooms are increasing in popularity and will continue to do so in autumn. If you don’t want to go all-out with the Greek theme, consider adding a few smaller accents here and there and work your way up as you become more comfortable with the theme.

Smart Lighting

According to David Eberhardt, interior designer and founder of Nature of Home, smart lighting is set to transform modern interior design in the coming months. “The use of smart lighting systems can accentuate the existing design of a space. For instance, warm colour palettes can be complemented by orange-yellow lighting.”

Lighting plays a pivotal role in interior design. “A technology like this can create a sensory

experience with different customisable light settings. As a result, homeowners can elevate the design of their indoor space,” says Eberhardt. He also claims that good lighting options can also contribute to a homeowner’s well-being. Consider shopping around for the best deals and incorporate smart lighting into the rooms that you use the most. This way, you can set the scene depending on your mood.

Warm Metallics

Autumn is all about making the home feel warm and cosy. During this time, homeowners will be looking to surround themselves with warmth, colour, and interest. Instead of traditional hardware, there will now be a shift in metallic hardware designs. Colours such as copper, warm brass, and gold will be popular options.

You can easily and quickly update your kitchen or bathroom at a relatively low cost by replacing the hardware. Swap your current fittings with warm metallic fittings, and you will notice a huge difference in the overall appearance of the room. You can contrast your hardware with deeper shades, such as teal or deep blues, for a more eye-catching appearance.

Luxurious Textures

According to Barbara Stern, interior design expert at Ottoman Textiles, this autumn, there will be a significant emphasis on luxurious fabrics that elevate the aesthetics of the home. Velvets, in particular, are looking to take centre stage this season. “We’re seeing a surge in deep, rich shades of velvet being used for sofas, armchairs, and even headboards. The plush texture of velvet not only adds a touch of opulence but also brings warmth, making spaces feel cosy and inviting,” says Stern.

In addition to velvet, several other luxurious textures will also increase in popularity over the coming season. “Silks and chenilles are also making a comeback, especially in decorative accents like throw pillows and drapes. With their sheen and softness, these materials add layers of texture and sophistication to interiors,” explains Stern. Consider adding a range of luxurious textures to your design for a more complete look.
