Julia believes this translates into giving the best advice to clients when they ask which type of survey would best suit their requirements, to the route schedulers being courteous when booking appointments and to surveyors being professional and personable when inspecting a property, dealing with specific requests and reporting back in a timely manner. “The mission has always been to establish a company that we are proud of, and most importantly, that we would want to do business with ourselves. We are lucky that the hurdles we have had to overcome since starting this company have not been gender related, but have been more generic issues involved with getting a new venture off the ground and establishing ourselves. The industry has been very supportive of our business, and I am eternally grateful to them for giving us the opportunity to prove ourselves. I would encourage more women to get involved in the surveying sector, as it is a rewarding career, and there are not enough female surveyors. “Currently, the biggest challenge in our industry as a whole is a shortage of surveyors. The way we are addressing this is to continue to look for qualified surveyors, but to also invest in training our own. This is a long term plan, but without that sort of investment the business will not be able to grow and to support the needs of its varied clients. “My vision is that the people who come to Precedent Surveyors remain with us because we treat them with respect, value them and reward them appropriately, and that they share in the success of the company as a whole.
