Build Magazine April 2016

Build Magazine 40 ing Veevers Carter, owner and founder of Veevers Carter and sister event design and production company Event Concept have been tasked to illustrate how New Covent Garden Flower Market is ‘Behind Every Great Florist’, and has been an essential part of London life, flowering London for centuries. Unlike any exhibit seen before in the Great Pavilion, the stand exemplifies Veevers Carter’s inimitable style of “undone artistry” that allows the natural beauty of flowers to speak for themselves whilst also highlighting the critical role of New Covent Garden Flower Market plays in supplying London’s florists with the very freshest floral produce. “We are extremely honoured to take on such an exciting project. It’s wonderful to have been select- ed and we are keen to showcase both our floristry and design expertise on the world’s most esteemed and celebrated cultural and events stage,” says Managing Director and founder Ming Veevers Cart- er. “We look forward to working with New Covent Garden Flower Market, with whom we have worked for many years, to realise their very exciting debut stand at Chelsea.” The design employs the iconic flower buckets as the hero visual, a symbol of the market and those who work there, to explore the intrinsic relationship that exists between market-seller and florist. Drawing inspiration from the rich history of New Covent Garden Flower Market, its traders and their stories, the stand design juxtapos- es the raw, unpolished beauty of the flower market with the stylised, meticulously crafted arrangements from floral designers. Each party is represented via a side of the stand wall, with a breach in the middle that alludes to the inextricable link between New Covent Garden Flower Market and the florists they supply. In a nod to the bustling trading environ- ment of the Flower Market, the dual-faced stand is made up, on one side, of a 3 metre high installation of iconic auction buckets overflowing with an enormous selection of flowers and foliage at New Covent Garden Flower Market, sourced from the far corners of the earth. The formal rows of striking floral buckets twist and loosen, descending into the centre of the stand forming a break that emerges on the other side of the wall, to reveal a closely guarded secret design set to be unveiled at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
