Build Magazine 67 60 Seconds Tell us about your firm. RustyBrick Designs was founded in 2010 as an architectural services practice. We bring in-depth knowledge and expertise to a wide range of architectural design and construction projects. Our practice specialises in resi- dential and commercial projects of all sizes, providing tailored services to individual client specifications. We pride ourselves in providing genuine solutions for architectural needs in a professional and friendly environment. Who are your services aimed at? Our clients range from individuals requiring services for home extensions to those building new apartments. We also undertake work for other architectural firms requiring overflow or to take their planning concepts through build- ing control to construction. While most clients are from across the UK, we have also worked for international clients. Although there are clients who we never meet face to face, their feedback is that our communication is first rate. This is key to success in any company. What makes your firm unique? We view a building as a whole package from start to finish. This means that right from con- cept we try to ensure that all the components fit together - architectural design, structure requirements and mechanical and electrical systems. Coming from a multi-disciplinary background in architecture, structural, mechanical and electrical with first-hand experience in several of the trades, we are in a unique position to understand the requirements for each stage of the construction process. This has enabled us to produce designs which are suitable for follow-on trades without dis- ruption to the overall architectural design. What’s the biggest challenge your firm is currently facing? At present our biggest challenge is getting further overflow/ collaboration work from other architectural firms to allow us to further expand and develop the business. This is an area in which we wish to expand and provide further high quality services and facilities for other growing architectural practices. What’s your business philosophy? Our philosophy is that from first click to final brick we are committed to providing a professional service, producing architectural design and drawings to the highest standard. We believe that this quality comes from fostering good work- ing relationships. We strive to understand the needs and ambitions of the client and incorporate these into their individual design whilst finding a balance between the desires of the client and what is achievable within the given context and constraints. Our aim is to bring to life the client’s vision, whilst using our experience and knowledge to achieve an end result that is both satisfactory and feasible. Does your company have any challenges moving forward? The main challenge that we face is that there are larger more established practices in the area. We have however found that with offering competitive rates and our continued commitment to forging strong relationships with clients and other architectural companies, we find a good balance. What business do you most admire in your industry? The business that we admire the most is one of our clients, SK Design, York- shire. We admire the way they are a customer-focused family-run business that provide high quality designs and drawings for their clients.
