26 Build 2017 Architecture Awards liver Franz Schmidt, Natali Canas del Pozo and Lucas Echeveste Lacy are three architects that founded El Equipo Creativo studio based in Barcelona and specialized on gastronomic spaces, as well as brand and commercial spaces. Natali outlines how the firm was founded and how far it has come since inception. “Our core team began our work together in 2010, with the design for the emblematic restaurant Tickets of Ferran and Albert Adriá. EL EQUIPO CREATIVO, the informal way we were named during that first project, is today the name of the studio. As we are architects, Interior Design was the logical step towards a more detailed and atmospheric approach to architecture. The key of the success was that the three of us, with different backgrounds, experiences and expertizes, joined forces together and the multidisciplinary combination worked”. “Since the birth of the company, our team has grown up and now is as cheerful and diverse as our proposals. Architects and designers, creative and technical, work all together on a big table where the projects are developed from initial sketches to final construction documents”. ´´We share the idea that space, the same as food, tells stories, creates sensations and experiences. We work closely with our clients in order to provide the best translation of their gastronomic or commercial concepts. Therefore every new project is a challenge that starts with thorough visual investigation of the topics related to the concept. This methodology of work always leads through unexpected ways to create new solutions, specific and surprising for each project. “Many projects have been developed, always related to the world of gastronomy, and have been recognized in numerous international design awards such as the prestigious Restaurant and Bars Design Award, The Great Indoors Awards, FX International Award or the Best of the Year Award. They have also been published in paper and web publications in more than twenty countries. “Recently, El Equipo Creativo’s Blue Wave Bar was crowned as the most beautiful bar in the world. A great recognition, especially when there has been a great team of people behind who have worked hard to get it. A prize of this category gives added value to the design sector in our country but it also leads customers, present and future to value more and more the importance of a well-designed space.” Looking ahead, El Equipo Creativo is now starting a new professional stage with international projects and as directors of the Master of Interior of the European Institute of Design in Barcelona, and will continue to grow and prosper, as Natali concludes. “As we look to the future we are focusing on growing our firm from an emerging interior practice to an established one. This means expanding to other design categories locally and internationally. We have more designs for restaurants lined up and very soon we will open our first hotel in Madrid. Also we are starting to work internationally in three different continents, with projects in Rome, Rotterdam, Boston and Rabat.
