BUILD - Architecture Awards 2017

2017 Architecture Awards Build “An incredible ecclesiastical project which we are currently running is that of the new extension to the 13th and 18th Century Grade I listed St Lawrence church in West Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. The church, renovated and extended by the ancestor of Sir Edward Dashwood, Premier Baronet of Great Britain, and his architect in 1763, is topped by a great gilded ball which seats ten inside. Popular mythology surrounds its history and makes for fantastic, if not eccentric, reading. Internally, the 1763 rebuilding shows a nave surrounded by a continuous row of engaged Corinthian capped columns that mimic porphyry stone, with exquisite rococo plasterwork, all beneath a fine Borgnis fresco. The church forms an imposing and dramatically beautiful crown to West Wycombe Hill. In 2016, we won planning permission for the scheme on the first attempt and a subsequent Faculty permission followed, along with permissions from 12 further organisations. The project is now on-site and progressing well.”
