In Toronto’s Downtown East district, First Gulf owns approximately 60-acres of land known as East Harbour. Formerly home to the Unilever soap factory, we are revisiting this key piece of downtown for the first time in more than 100 years as a development opportunity. East Harbour not only represents the largest commercial real estate development in Canada; it is also one of the largest developments of its kind in the world. The magnitude and impact of this project are comparable to international projects like Canary Wharf in London, which helped secure the city’s place as the centre of finance for Europe, and Hudson Yards in New York, which has transformed a derelict industrial area into a major new employment node. East Harbour will be a pivotal employment and business hub for the City of Toronto and will have over 10-million square feet of office space, with the ability to accommodate more than 50,000 workers. The development will also feature 2 million square feet of retail and a wide variety of entertainment, art, cultural and green spaces. Key to East Harbour is a multi-modal transit hub, which will connect it to the rest of the city and Greater Toronto Area with convenient transportation options. Once complete, East Harbour will be a thriving new district in the growing City of Toronto for people to live, work and play.
