Here at Hilton Barnfield Architects we approach every project with dedication and enthusiasm and are committed to producing innovative solutions to every design chal- lenge in order to maximise added value for our clients. We are therefore very proud to be awarded ‘Cost Effective Architects of the Year’ in rec- ognition of our efforts. Our success is down to offering and delivering a highly personal, creative and professional service. Based in Exeter, our firm is committed to delivering high quality architecture to all our clients. Our team of talented designers and technicians offer the necessary skills to provide good value for our clients who range from private home owners to landowners and property developers. We offer a full architec- tural service guiding our clients through the whole process from inception to completion. As we consider ourselves to be a genuine local architecture practice this mentality defines our philosophy, which is driven by a desire to enhance and benefit from our lo- cal environment, making the most of what’s on our door step. We design buildings that have a strong relationship to their surround- ing context: aesthetically, environmentally and spatially. As our practice has grown we have been able to take this ethos to projects further afield where careful study of the local vernacular has enabled us to deliver proposals that pro- vide high quality spaces, places and buildings that are well rooted in their local environment. Our architecture style is not heavily influence by fashion, as it is instead driven by a problem solving approach responding to individual client briefs and site constraints. Taking clues from the surrounding historic architecture and reinterpreting this to create modern architecture that pays reference to its immediate context helps us to avoid following architectural fads. In order to keep up to date with the latest de- velopments in modern architecture and have a growing library of books, monographs and journals documenting the work of contempo- rary architects. As well as this we also follow a strict programme of professional development so that we ensure all our staff are up to date on all the latest developments in design, regu- lations and technology. Since the practice was established we have benefitted from strong connections with architectural education through teaching and reviewing student work. These connections help us to push our expectations for design quality and to become more critically aware of our own work.
