With a close attention to using natural daylight, natural ventilation, locally sourced materials, sustainable sites, and water efficiency, the firm is able to combine sustainability with creativity to create unique spaces that will stand the test of time. When selecting this innovative and dynamic practice for our awards, BUILD Magazine was impressed by its work on the Carriage House and Conservatory. This project was to create a traditional carriage house and conservatory for a private John A Simonetti Architect LLC: Best Sustainable Residential Design Practice - New England & Most Innovative Residential Architecture Project (New England): Carriage House and Conservatory John A Simonetti Architect LLC is the design and architecture practice of John A Simonetti, who draws on more than 30 years’ experience in the market to produce innovative spaces. We profile the firm and its Founder to find out more about how they came to win not one but two of our prestigious Architecture Awards for 2019. S residence integrating the structure into the newly designed exterior Japanese garden surround. The second-floor addition is made to look like a New England carriage house. John and his team were inspired by travels through Japan, Italy, and England. There is also a strong sustainable approach to this design, using natural materials, a sustainable site, water efficiency, good indoor air quality, strong energy efficiency, and an interior and exterior garden. Light, color, reflection, texture, landscape, and the natural flow of interior and exterior spaces define this project, and it was these values that led our judging team to select it for one of our prestigious Architecture Awards. Currently, the firm is working on a restaurant in an Urban Fabric. There are many challenges on this project based on the existing site and the existing structure the team are re- purposing. This restaurant will have interior green living walls and be decorated with re-purposed materials. There will also be an exterior organic garden where much of the produce will be grown. The team is enjoying working on this project as they are breathing back life into a post-industrial area with a new and innovative approach.
