BUILD 2019 Architecture Awards 92 May19451 aking inspiration from classical art, music and the global experience of its team, Verb Studio aims to create evocative spaces that showcase the uniqueness of the space and those who will occupy it. To the studio’s team, spatial design is a composition in a language that can be subconsciously comprehended, where a designed space is like a novel, a poem, or simply a statement. It bears messages, and this ethos is what the team aims to translate into every project. This expert team has international experience in the design and execution of various architectural and interior projects, covering residential, commercial, and hospitality sectors. As such, they are able to work with their clients to create a unique space that really speaks to them and their specific tastes. Among the firm’s recent successful projects was its work creating a ‘Villa With A Sea View’, 3,185 sq.ft villa located at Clear Water Bay, Hong Kong. The project was exposed to the picturesque scenery of islands and a calm shore, and as such the team at Verb Studio believed it deserved an interior that could extract the poetic quality of the scenery and be reverberated, together to form an environment that could lead contemplation, and evoke primitive sensibilities. T Within an enclosure of terrazzo and marmorino, a crafted volume in timber texture prudently trimmed and positioned, the team elevated the kitchen and dining area from the living Area. This created divided zones under a single atmosphere, as well allowing the scenery of the shore and islands being exposed further deep to the kitchen. Slabs of grey granite horizontally embedded at the base of the timber volume, as the last step of stair between the split levels, and lead to a glimpse of the Bar Room behind the tinted glass of the fireplace. A slab of red marble, interlocking the split levels of living and dining area, carries upward to the wall of bookshelves, which address a junction connecting the three bedrooms and creates an intimate gathering space for family members at night. The design was inspired by the mood of Impressionist music masterpieces, the Gymnopedie No.1 by Erik Satie and Arabesque No.1 by Claude Debussy. At the conclusion of this project the Verb Studio team were proud of everything they have achieved.
