The layout in the house is changing significantly. ByEmmaJaneInteriors has tried to manipulate the layout to deliver what the client wants, but to do this in the most cost effective way to stay in the budget. The challenge is the costs, so sourcing good quality products for a great price is key. It has to keep to the budget as there is no room for error on this. But this is what the company is good at, finding solutions and also finding the best prices possible and adjusting whatever needs to be adjusted in order to still deliver what the client has asked for but in a slightly different way. For example, in the kitchen, rather than have an island with services, this was removed and an end breakfast bar was added. This saved money on cupboards, worktop, and labour for services, as ultimately the client’s primary need was to have a place for the family to sit when using the kitchen. They said they just wanted an island but actually when presented with a breakfast bar facing the kitchen area instead they were happier with this as it delivered more than what they thought they wanted. This example just goes to show how important interior design can be to a project. When listening to a client, speak about their lifestyle, how they live, what they do in the house; it brings ideas together to make the house work for them. It’s not just T about interior, it’s about listening to the customer and getting a really good feel for what they need even if they don’t realise themselves in the beginning. At present, there is a huge trend for people to see their homes as multi-functional spaces adapting to an office and gym. ByEmmaJaneInteriors did a blog on this for Independent Oxford recently where it made suggestions on how to create office space in homes, whether it be under the stairs, in the corner of a room or using the spare bedroom as multi-functional space.
