68 BUILD 2021 Architecture Awards May21795 Best Urban Design Firm 2021 - Southern China Established in 1991, AETEC-Mo has spent thirty years delivering exceptional architectural designs to clients from a variety of backgrounds across numerous borders. We profile the firm to see just how they’ve been able to achieve such undeniable success in the industry and how they have worked with others to secure the construction of so many amazing properties. stablished in the city of Macau, China, the team at AETEC-Mo have never really let borders get in their way. With a team that is international, qualified, professional and experienced, they are not only able to deliver breath taking designs to the architectural sector, but more than able to deliver. Working closely with well-known organizations in Asia-Pacific, Africa and Europe, the team have had an incredible impact on the way in which many design their architecture. The team’s multilingual and multicultural approach has seen them approached for many projects, each with their own unique challenges. Throughout the conceptualization of any space, there is a need to ensure the right material is chosen for the right place. AETEC-Mo has always taken the time to ensure that a materials’ conjugation and articulation is just right, in order to create a truly harmonious space. Space is another factor that sets this incredible firm apart. To them, quality of space is always nestled in the details. The way each intersection and spatial relationship is made, each transition of space, materials and light has been thought of is what allows each part to become the much bigger “whole” of a project. Much of the effectiveness of the team’s proposals for a project is the accuracy and clear communication of the drawings that compose the proposal. This attitude that embraces detail in every specific part has always characterized an AETEC-Mo build, with the team visually every part of a project in order to lower the risk of incompatibility. Over the last thirty years, technology has become a key part of how the team move forward. They have embraced new methods which allow them to showcase how their designs will look to clients, allowing every stakeholder involved to walk forward together as one. The team have recently been lucky enough to develop the Chinese-Portuguese Bilingual Education and Training Centre at Macau University. This project was based on the requirements of the course, and the location in which the building was found. The Bilingual Center was carefully drawn together to act as representative of the existent cultural miscegenation, incorporating elements of the architectural vocabulary typical of Portugal and China. This dedication to delivering the best results is why people continue to turn to this incredible team. E One of the challenges to this internationally renowned team has been the impact of COVID-19. Many projects were interrupted or abandoned all together thanks to the aftermath of the pandemic. Macau is a small city and very devoid of tourism, so the impact of international connections being cut has caused the entire economy of the local economy to slow. This has obviously had an impact on civil construction and investment, but as the situation returns to normal, so too, the team hope, will demand for their services. Few would disagree that AETEC-Mo is a much valued contributor to the architectural industry, pulling all of the projects they are involved in forward to new and greater heights. We celebrate the success of the team in the past, and look forward to seeing how their detailed, client-centric approach brings them much success moving forward.
