Set at the foot of a small cliff, it was all but very exposed to sun and wind. The layout shows a contemporary main construction to the road and a Creole wooden guest house set back on the side. The garden, the swimming pool, and its decks, sit in between with several intermediate spaces and pergolas. Allem understood the client’s desire to blend in the project with the landscape, and have a wide range of different indoor and outdoor spaces, with more or less light, wind or privacy, being the basis of this design. Far from the Palladian idea of the villa with a main facade overlooking an entrance perspective, or the hedonistic modern seaside architecture that stands as a statement in the landscape, this project is a small utopia mixing build and unbuild, man-made and nature.
