BUILD Architecture Awards 2023 90 orn in Bologna in 1977, Enrico Muscioni graduated in architecture in 2005 at the University IUAV of Venice. His own experience encompasses a wide range of building types, including office, retail, hotel, wellness, residential, interior design, and institutional workplace obtaining international publications and awards. The types of clients he serves are private, corporate, with also public and institutional works. “Architecture is my greatest passion but in private life I love sailing, surfing, kitesurfing, and skateboarding,” he enthuses. “I can’t work and I can’t live without music. My life has a constant soundtrack and I’m also a DJ and DJ producer. I love the sea, the sun and his sunsets, the summer, and the easy life.” Enrico’s approach to each project is always based on a careful study of the place in question in order to find its belonging. Crystalising and synthesising concepts and elements leads each project to a strong sense of belonging to the place as well as to the creation of an architecture that perfectly manifests a strong and seductive corporate branding. In the case of residential projects, the approach is to think of the design of a house as a tailor-made suit for the soul of those who will live there. “I’ve always used a first approach with an introspective interview of the client’s self to get to the bottom of his personality and to create spaces designed for his soul,” Enrico elaborates, speaking of his USP as an architect. “I consider the architect’s role to be the same as a philosophical, social, and spiritual educator. An architect must be an educator. I believe in this. The passion for my work is spontaneous. I think it is tangible that the intensity and commitment I put into my work derives from a boundless ambition and a true love for architecture.” Recently, Enrico was recognised in the BUILD Architecture Awards 2023 for his creation, Lift House, which saw the project named Most Innovative Luxury Residential Project 2023 (Italy). Whilst not his latest project, Enrico describes Lift House as perhaps “the most important for what it has given me”. He goes on to describe a design process that had a long course in building for economic sustainability and what this project gave him was the perception of the future regarding the society in which we live. “I started to understand that people feel the need to go back to nature and get out of the cities,” he states of the project. “The need for silence and the need to share ancient traditions by rethinking them with a contemporary mentality is, I think, the most current trend. I was very amazed that this young couple of my clients who wanted to build a contemporary villa in the countryside with an extraordinary panorama didn’t ask me for an infinity pool. They asked me for spaces to live the traditions they were taught by their grandparents. The cultivation, the production of wine, oil, and milk. They didn’t just ask me for a dog or cat bed. They asked me to be able to have a family of donkeys and cows free in their garden. This was amazing and wonderful.” Enrico was also rewarded for his dedication and hard work with another prestigious accolade which named him Modern Luxury Architect of the Year 2023.
