BUILD Architecture Awards 2024 ASPA KST was established by a group of professionals with expertise in architectural design and urban planning in both the public and private sectors. The innovative practice has become an international office with projects across Greece and beyond. In 2020, ASPA KST opened its UK branch in London to serve clients on a larger scale, providing them with bespoke projects that have a positive impact on the world. Comprised of 35 people across Athens and London, ASPA KST caters a diverse clientele including acclaimed developers in Greece and revered companies such as LAMDA, Dimand, Athens Medical Center, AVIS, Regency Entertainment, Panathinaikos F.C., and AEK F.C. The practice’s work encompasses everything from urban planning, architecture, and interior design to large-scale buildings such as shopping malls, hospitals, offices, and hotels. The team consists of registered architects, engineers, and designers as well as admin staff with experience in large international offices around the world. In the wake of its win at this year’s prestigious awards, we speak to Tina Tsagkaratou, Founder of the UK office and Design Director at ASPA KST, about the talented team behind the organisation. to creating architecture and urbanism that is pioneering in terms of both aesthetics and environmental impact. It is the studio’s mission to deliver contemporary and environmental conscious projects of exceptional quality while ensuring that the user experience remains a central focus. Most recently, ASPA KST began a new project, the Interbalkan Medical Centre in Thessaloniki, Greece. The new building will become the Oncology Centre, designed specifically to complement the existing hospital while having the least possible environmental impact. It will relate to the main curve of the older structures in plan and provide a bright and inclusive environment for patients. Tina Tsagkaratou, Design Director, shares, “What we are most proud of was also the biggest challenge we faced. The question was how to design the cancer treatment areas in a way that would minimise the discomfort that patients feel. We created a new approach to these spaces by removing the hospital curtains and replacing them with warm, friendly spaces with hotel aesthetics.
