Our objective is to improve fire protection in the commercial, residential, health care and educational sectors, preventing devastation and essentially saving lives. We undertake all sized projects within these sectors. Being a specialist contractor for CIF, we cover a great deal of large schools and colleges. Schools are responsible for complying with site safety and building regulations and that’s where we come in. Evolution helps with services to keep schools compliant in all areas of their fire safety as well as maintenance provisions to ensure their fire doors obtain their fire resisting capabilities. Evolution has a wide clientele base however our biggest focus is within the educational sector. Due to a vast number of educational buildings being of age and fire protection not prioritised, we see a lot of non-compliances overlooked. Since the increasing pressure of regulations and legal requirements, these schools have a great weight on their shoulders. This demand however is supported by the ESFA (Education and Skills Funding Agency) part of the DFE (Department for Education) through something called (CIF) Condition improvement funding. The role of CIF is to support projects that address compliance, health and safety issues and maintenance needs. Those successful high priority works, such as ‘Fire safety works’, are granted the funding to carry out their projects. Fortunately, in the position as a selected specialist, we are able to tender for projects proposed and each year receive a list of projects that we have been selected for. We are consistently seeing complexities within our projects whether it be commercial, residential, health care or educational, this is especially apparent with period buildings. One challenge that we see often is adaptation to asbestos presence. Asbestos was used for its ability to strengthen and fireproof materials including concrete, bricks, cement, pipes and insulation. These, all of which, we typically disturb when it comes to compartmentation and fire door installation. Asbestos is an extreme hazard to health so must be removed and disposed of appropriately. We have now adapted our services so we can do just that as part of our contracts, thus keeping both clientele and us safe. Period buildings also see a great deal of wear and tear. Fire door installation can often look like a simple straight forward process however to ensure compliance, there are many variables that can affect and sometimes compromise their fire resisting capabilities. An example of this is flooring quality. Age sees surfaces sink and become uneven, fire doors have specifications with small margins for gaps surrounding and underneath doors. These sunken and uneven floors result in us having serious delays as we then must source and quote for these challenges to be amended. However, due to our team’s expertise, we are always able to source quality contractors to resolve these issues prior to installation. There are not many job complexities that we have not been able to overcome. We are proud of any problem resolved, no matter the severity. Another service that has particularly impacted Evolution is our maintenance provisions. Fire doors are sold and fitted with their 30-60 minute fire rating however they do run the risk of being compromised by wear and tear. It is vital that these are checked regularly. Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 & Regulation 10, checks and remedials are a legal requirement. Glazing, door closers, the doors working performance, and more all need checked, and if not up to standard, these faults could compromise the doors fire resisting capabilities. Evolution can provide quotations for both surveys and proposed remedials. It is up to the client if they choose Evolution to carry out these remedials. Evolution’s name was founded through an approach and dynamic that leans on constant betterment and growth. That has been a foundational value for the company and continues to be a focus for the team as we work to deliver best practices within the industry. “We will continue to learn, innovate, and grow as the industry changes by carrying out our role with the upmost standard.” We believe that our service offering is outstanding in what we have to offer and our quality guarantee. We are a nationwide specialist contractor that has a history of working in a multitude of areas of the UK, so distance isn’t a limitation. The remainder of 2024 will see Evolution’s goals remaining quite simple. We will continue to provide an exceptional service to our clients. We have a new trade show to attend in October 2024, so we are hoping to meet new potential clients and furtherly educate the sector about how our systems work and why they are of such importance for their safety. We wish to maintain our values and passion, developing our profile as a fire safety specialist contractor along the way.
