Company founder Malek Labbane talks about the process behind its bespoke projects. etting under the skin of a client to discover their unique personality involves far more than just a few conversations. It’s about understanding habits, artistic tastes and their daily routine, according to interior designer Malek Labbane. As founder of London-based boutique interior design studio Kromatic Interiors, Malek has been making a name for herself creating unique distinctive spaces that reflect each owner’s distinctive personality. This ability to shape private residential homes as bespoke as a client’s fingerprint has seen Kromatic grow its client list in the UK and internationally, primarily through word of mouth. “We build homes, not houses,” explains Malek, originally from Tunisia. “We build homes that reflect our clients’ personalities and are therefore as unique as their occupants.” To acquire a deeper level of understanding in each project, the company learns as much as possible about their clients, who tend to be international and busy professionals, who travel extensively for both work and leisure. “Some already have an art collection and are interested in design and interiors while others might even feel slightly intimidated by the collaboration with an interior designer,” ponders Malek, who developed her interior design skills at London’s KLC School of Design. “Our starting point is always to put our client at ease. Our aim is to help them curate an environment in which they feel comfortable and relaxed. “Because each one of our clients is unique and different, we aim to reflect those differences in their interiors. That’s why we strive to stay away from trends and “the one look fits all” approach. Every new project is a new adventure and a new journey.” High on the company’s priority list alongside originality is sustainability, with an aim to maximise value and minimise environmental impact. G Assisting in that process is Kromatic Interiors’ collaborations with artisan specialists and up and coming talent to source a unique selection of furniture, lighting and art. Working with architects, consultants, craftsmen and artisans, the studio is creating interiors that are practical, yet thoughtful; efficient, yet timeless and unaffected by fleeting fashion trends. “Sustainability and social conscious have always been at the core of our enterprise,” adds Malek. “We try to steer our clients towards more sustainable material choices and solutions. “We believe in bringing harmony and aim to deliver solutions that will stand the test of time and will still be valid in years to come.” Collaborating with talented young designers and artisans has worked so well for the company that it now plans to work further with young talented designers and artisans to create distinctive, contemporary objects. Central to this are Mediterranean Inspired Modern Objects, or MIMO, which is a curated selection of unique and limited editions handmade items for interiors. MIMOs core values are “young, creative, socially conscious, fair trade, sustainable design”, explains Malek. “We put our collaborations with artisans and craftsmen at the very heart of our mission. Over the next year, I would like to continue to give visibility and exposure to small independent artisans and craftsmen, especially from my home country of Tunisia. “We believe in meaningful and long-lasting connections. We collaborate with the same teams of artisans and craftsmen, and our clients often return and recommend us.” Company: Kromatic Interiors Name: Malek Labbane Website: www.kromatic-interiors.com
