37 Design & Build 2021 BUILD 40 BUILD Q4 2021 Design With A Difference House of Design by Suzy Habre has become a gem of Beirut’s design scene, with stunning creations that demonstrate immense creativity from all quarters. In BUILD’s rolling series of Design and Build Awards, the firm was named Beirut’s Most Innovative Design Practice – 2021. We caught up with Suzy to understand how her approach to design earned her firm this impressive accolade. hen Suzy Habre first opened the doors of House of Design, she created a place where creative design could flourish within Beirut. Focused on the food and beverage industry, Suzy and her incredible team have designed and executed the delivery of over a hundred F&B outlets, many of which have grown into international brands and worldwide franchises. With names such as Bar Du Port and La Mezcaleria on her client list, it’s little wonder she and her amazing team have achieved such success. The path to success is one that is drawn directly from Suzy’s own convictions when it comes to creating unique art. “I believe that design is what you make people see and feel,” she told us. “In fact, there is no randomness in design. The process follows many factors, from brainstorming to creating the concept, to establishing the focal points and providing a unique identity for each place. In other words, it’s the process of envisioning and implementing an interactive approach with the end user.” This approach combines both artistic temperament and scientific knowledge to create a natural and comprehensive user experience. Jared Spool once said, “Good design, when done well, should be invisible,” but Suzy and her team have a different perspective. “We strongly believe that it can be visible W Jul21876 and great with a priceless impact on human feelings rather than the eyes,” she explains. “The space rules and elements should be easily and immediately understood by the end user.” With such an impressive array of projects under her belt, Suzy and the team at House of Design have had to adapt to suit many different styles. Each outlet has its own unique and personalized language, whether it’s boho chic, trendy or casual to name but a few, but each shares a universal language in a single space. Whether it’s a restaurant, lounge or club, her attitude is that these outlets act as a retreat from daily scenery to a blend of feelings and sensations. That said, Suzy is always careful to ensure that nature is a key component in every design she develops. “I always make sure to let nature breath in my designs to provide a sense of happiness to the visitors,” she elaborates. “I also let fashion show significantly in it. Fashion is not static nor gentle, but bold and fluid. It makes visitors feel glamorous. By combining both, I allow passion to breathe through the design.” What cannot be disputed is Suzy’s awareness of the impact of her design work. She knows that her influence on a project is significant and has the potential to transform a project. In the world of F&B, feedback is instantaneous from the end users. Either a space works or it doesn’t. It’s a genuine connection that Suzy finds incredibly appealing. What is clear is that the end user is always at the heart of her process. It’s this simple secret that lies behind her team’s inimitable success. Company: House of Design by Suzy Habre Name: Suzy Habre Email: [email protected] Web Address: https://www.hodsh.com/
