To celebrate the firm’s win in this year’s Home & Garden Awards, we took the opportunity to profile Aura Architecture and showcase the secrets behind its success. Flexibility was important to the client, so the team introduced double sliding doors between the front reception and the main open plan living space. These doors are closed for the most part, but can be opened when the client is entertaining the family. The material palette internally continues an industrial 1920’s style with brass ironmongery and lighting. The new additions provide the space needed for a growing family, with flexibility of space, home working, and guest accommodation with en-suite facilities. This innovative, client-focused approach ensured success, and the expert team at Aura Architecture are planning to complete more transformation projects in 2019 for clients within London and Surrey. Seeking to offer clients a truly innovative solution, Aura’s focus is on maximising space, creating simple, light-filled spaces that are sustainable and energy efficient. Among the firm’s recent successful projects, and one which was recognised by our award judges, was its work on Cromwell Road. This project was a full house refurbishment including an imposing rear extension in an industrial style using crittal doors/windows, yellow stock brick and a zinc parapet. The house is south facing with large expanses of glazing, so careful consideration was given to solar gain and heat build-up. Aura Architecture used solar reflective glass coatings on the windows, doors and rooflight to reflect some of this solar gain, together with flush fitted integrated blinds to control the light penetration.
