The plan was to completely renovate the kitchen and match the tiles with those that were in the adjoining sunroom. About halfway through the project, it became clear that the tiles didn’t match and while no one was to blame, it was immensely frustrating for the client and the Allura team. Eventually, Alan and his team were able to come up with a solution for the client, finding a tile that matched much better and creating a finished product that the client was more delighted with than she could have ever expected. It was the kind of incident that no designer ever likes to come up against, but Alan felt enormously proud of his team and their agility in resolving a potentially significant issue. The team continues to demonstrate its signature adaptability through a period which is challenging for businesses all around the world. Alan has identified that the pandemic does threaten some issues in terms of manufacturing and lead times, as sourcing materials has become increasingly difficult, an issue that is only being compounded by wildfires in the west and rising prices due to inflation. However, he has also seen the benefits that are being born from the crisis, such as the rise in awareness and adoption of paperless and electronic software that is making operations more efficient, without compromising on the quality of service or products.
