Dane Treadwell, Founder of Mammoth and an experienced bricklayer by trade, is a self-proclaimed perfectionist, highly trained in Grono Artificial Lawn Installation and an accredited Talasey Paving Installer. However, the journey has not always been easy. Early in his career as a bricklayer, Dane had an accident and slipped a disk in his back. Dane was forced to step back from his career for a few years, and following surgery for a full disk replacement, was told he would no longer be able to work in the job he loved. Dane was devastated, seeing that his ambitions to own a company of his own might not come to fruition. Through pure determination and hard work, Dane proved the doctors wrong, rebuilding his own strength while building an organisation that he takes great pride in and which is today part of a wide community of suppliers, builders, and clients. The partnerships that Mammoth has built have been vital to the growth of Dane’s business, and have enabled the firm to offer the very best in services and products to clients. These partnerships have been particularly valued by Dane and his team in the past year, helping them to overcome the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic that have affected so many businesses. The initial challenges faced by Dane and his team was the lack of clarity about who was allowed to work through the lockdown restrictions. Although Mammoth was able to keep operating, the team soon realised that most of their suppliers had been forced to close, delaying activity by at least two weeks. It has been Mammoth’s busiest year yet, and despite the challenges that the team has faced due to Covid-19, Mammoth has been able to deliver each project to its usual high standards. One such project was a full garden landscape in Winchmore Hill, London, that saw the team working on initial design, construction, and planting scheme. As with every project, Dane and his team engaged the client in an in-depth discussion about their needs and what they were looking to achieve, the materials they wanted to incorporate and how they wanted the spaces arranged throughout the garden. Paying close attention to the budget of the client, Mammoth sourced the best quality materials, before setting out a detailed plan for the team and the client, which considered everything from timings to tidiness of the site. The Winchmore Hill project was not an easy one, particularly during the winter. Constant rain meant all the excavation work carried out by the team was constantly being flooded, and the London clay that made up the garden meant it was very messy and difficult to dig and dispose of waste material. The Mammoth team set about finding a solution after days of pumping out the water and digging, installing drainage that would rectify the flooding situation and a subbase to work off. The end result was a beautiful garden complete with putting green and a bespoke water feature. As Dane looks ahead, his plans for Mammoth centre primarily on expanding his team. This growing team will have to access to the latest resources and training so that their expertise is always broadening and their qualifications similarly develop, so that the whole team are prepared to take on the exciting projects that await them in 2021 and beyond.
