This project’s result was a development of temporary two-storey, Passivhaus standard studio apartments that will act as a reception centre for Cardiff’s homeless, providing them with a safe, warm place to stay whilst they are assessed for permanent housing. The requirements of the Hayes Place build were that it needed to be high quality, with each individual build needing to be something anyone would be proud to call a home, whilst also being fully demountable and transportable. Beattie Passive’s designs accomplished something that looks welcoming, inviting, and sturdy, whilst also having full disassembly capabilities. Thus, everything about the development is mobile, from the staircases and balconies to the Apartments themselves. Each one of their builds is developed with the utmost industrial rigour in mind; to Beattie Passive, every build is a pivotal part of their reputation, and so they painstakingly test airtightness, sound- proofing and thermal performance on every home they build to ensure their high standards are always met.
