Home Builder Awards 2021

Home Builder Awards 2021 BUILD 5 use of shade, tone, and light, it blends its industry leading use of colour with greenery and different types of materials. All these elements come together to form true artwork in its designs. It is forever excited to meet the next client and start the next project; no client is ever the same, and so, no design is ever similar – all its work is totally unique. A large part of the inspiration for its work remains to be the founder and CEO, Mali Langa. Her drive and experience with travelling the world informs its processes and inspires its team, and she can facilitate TASK in creating spaces that combine global aesthetics with African flair. Therefore, TASK’s design philosophy is one that revolves around the jubilant synergy behind different cultural creative elements. By showing this through bespoke interior design work, this business’s refreshing and unique interiors reflect a variety of rich themes, seeking to innovate through collaboration with the client and their ideas. In this way, it has worked hard to cultivate an in-house process specifically for communication. By having a standardised method of handling this that is adaptive from client to client but allows consistent standards across the board, it is constantly seeking to improve this, as this communication will underpin the entire project. Dialogue between designer and client must remain steadfast from the initial data collection and meeting that will allow TASK to get an idea of who the client is, to the very end of the project. It therefore loves to conduct in person meet and greets, allowing a client to take them around their space, cultivating an opportunity for both TASK and the client to get to know each other better and decide if one’s work will suit the other. It then takes the data it collects back to its briefing team and unpacks it with them, pulling out the elements that can be worked, identifying the elements the client wants to preserve, and beginning to envision the space. To manage a project at hand with efficacy and sophistication, TASK has recently adopted interactive digital document platforms. This allows it to curate information for the client’s viewing pleasure regarding the complexity of an interior design project; the document takes them through the process step by step from initial budgeting and quote to implementation of each design stage. Over the past year, an industry trend that TASK contended with was the heavily increased demand for bespoke interior design. More people than ever before had to use their home as the centre for all of life’s activities - work, leisure, exercise, even socialisation – and so its sector saw a boom in pressure on its services. People have begun to realise over so much time spent indoors that they wish for their interior to better fit this purpose, and better fit their lifestyle. TASK has been implementing the lessons it has learned from scaling its business to rising demand to step up to the plate. Thusly, the past year has been highly lucrative; challenging, but lucrative. Alongside its exemplary business practices and work, TASK is a huge believer in social corporate responsibility. Therefore, alongside its impressive revenue streams and business development, it has been running a charity, the Mali Langa Children’s Foundation Trust. This non-profit group gives a helping hand to children in need all over the continent of Africa. With a motto of ‘take my hand, let me walk with you,’ it shows its dedication to working with its service users and supporters to guide these children towards a better future through education and financial funding. In moves that founder Mali Langa is hoping will leave a lasting footprint in the regions it operates within, the charity identifies organisations that require additional support in providing for its service users, giving them that support. It works hard to put a smile on the faces of service users and gives their educators the tools they need to teach effectively. Recently, it has begun to put out its own original collections for sale through its online store, funnelling even further efforts into supporting its charity as the business grows. It will be continuing its art and social improvement work into the future as it plots out its path for the rest of 2021, hoping to uplift and inspire through education and beauty. ‘TASK is my way of leaving a legacy,’ Langa told us; ‘for people to look at us and say, that is what you can achieve when you put your heart and soul into what you do with your life.’ It is this mindset that will fuel TASK in becoming Africa’s leading authority on interior design, and its ambition will guarantee that it gets there.
