2019 Infrastructure Awards Build 9 Best Waste Management & Recycling Firm - Scotland Hamilton Waste & Recycling Ltd (HWR) is one of the largest, independent skip hire and commercial waste management companies in Scotland with a full range of environmental and recycling services. Here the company divert over 75% of all types of waste from landfill through one of the UK’s most sophisticated material recycling facilities. There has been over £10m invested in the site which was opened in 2014 and there are another two buildings being constructed this summer. A pioneer in the industry, alongside its work recycling woodchip and other generic waste, HWR commissioned the very first turn key plasterboard recycling plant in Scotland in 2010. This is still Scotland’s only plasterboard recycling facility that produces gypsum to PAS 109 standards. The firm also commissioned Scotland’s first mattress recycling plant in November 2017. This plant enables HWR to recycle the steel, foam and polyester from the mattresses with 100% diversion from landfill and full traceability of all recycled materials after deconstruction. Currently, being signatories with Zero Waste Scotland HWR as a company is already committed to Zero Waste Scotland targets, and as clients increasingly focus on reducing their environmental impact the firm will continue to drive towards even greater sustainability. As part of this focus the firm diverts between 97%-99% of all waste coming through its waste transfer stations through recycling and sending waste for RDF production. This already far exceeds the Zero Waste Scotland 2025 targets, and moving forward the firm will continue to strive towards even greater sustainability and further reduced waste. Overall, HWR has achieved incredible success over recent years, and looking ahead the company will seek to build upon the success of winning one of BUILD Magazine’s prestigious Infrastructure Awards for 2019 and strive towards even greater achievements over the years to come. ncorporated in 2002, HWR began life as a skip hire company, the firm is now regarded as a fully integrated waste collection and recycling company. Over the years the firm has achieved solid reputation for providing reliable and efficient skip hire and recycling service for construction and demolition waste as well as commercial and industrial waste in Edinburgh, the Lothians and the Borders. With a fleet of 31 vehicles HWR collect construction and demolition, commercial and industrial and trade waste within a 30-mile radius of the Edinburgh area.
