2018 Interior Design Awards Build 17 stablished in 2002, NSI draws on Founder Nicholas Sunderland’s vast experience in the design industry. He discusses his training and how he came to create this dynamic and innovative firm. “NSI was initially created after I had spent many years working for individual clients in London Dubai Pakistan and New York. After I had set up the company formally, we swiftly moved further into the residential sector. My client base grew from reputation and referral on my unique approach to design, creating individual spaces. This approach has grown from my formal training. “This began in Graphic Design in the mid-70s, when I was working for rising companies and accounts such as BMW Akai and Balfour Beatty. Head hunted, I moved into Direct marketing for the Young and Rubican Group and for many years till the early 90s I set up and ran companies for leading advertising agencies working with some of the world’s biggest blue-chip companies. Alongside this I developed my personal Interior Design skills, designing the offices I set up and taking on clients in my spare time but also designing my own homes as I bought and sold across London.” Looking ahead, Nicholas is keen to develop both NSI and its sister company to ensure that he achieves his mission; to create homes for people to live in, which are stylish, comfortable and unique to the individual. NSI offer a full design and build service, along with architecture cabinetry and soft furnishings. “Recently, I have just finished 6, 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartments, a new build in Chiswick, under Edward Sunderland, my sister company, a finalist in the SBID International Design Awards. Each apartment is individually designed to a high standard and they hit the market in January. Our next development is likely to be 120 houses in Essex to design and build, as well as individual design projects across London.
