Build 2018 Landscape & Gardening Awards 14 rawing on Sarah’s vast experience as a landscape designer, Sarah Naybour Design offers a comprehensive garden design service. She is a multi-award-winning designer with several RHS Medals to her name, as well as SGD Student Designer 2009. Sarah works with specialist nurseries and contractors to bring her projects to life, and a small team of designers, keeping the service small and personal. Everyone in her team is fully qualified and professional. Often drawing on art and sculpture for inspiration, Sarah’s fine art background is ever present, and she and her team work to create unique designs, as she is keen to highlight. “Here at Sarah Naybour Design we pride ourselves on offering a very personalised, detailed design, which we achieve by working in close partnership with all our clients. Creativity is core. We would not make the same garden twice, as very client and space is unique. This keeps our designs fresh, and us inspired. The overall aim is to create fitting and lasting landscapes which cater to the needs of the client and the setting.” One of the practice’s most recent projects, built last year by Matthew Ellett Landscaping, comprised of re-sculpting a large steep bank. The remit from the client was to create a link from an entertaining and dining terrace perched at the top, to the open lawn and large wildlife pond at the bottom. Sarah created a series of zig-zag paths and banks of naturalistic plantings, in huge swathes, all held up with vertical oak sleepers of differing heights. It is a surprising space which looks stunning from all angles and in all seasons. Four varieties of ornamental grasses form an evergreen structure along with punctuations of mounding shrubs. These are joined by a sequence of perennials which provide brushstrokes of colour from April to October. The materials beautifully complement the architecture and colours of the house; Corten planters and red brick, silvered oak and grey window profiles. The space works functionally and visually, and highlights the excellence that the firm aspire to constantly. Looking ahead, Sarah Naybour Design is gradually expanding to meet growing demand from clients; however, despite this Sarah is keen to maintain the ability to offer a personal service, and will keep the practice small for that sole purpose.
