Here we take a look at our Architect of the Year 2022 – West Yorkshire. ne Design Architects Ltd is an architectural practice based in an historic canal side industrial mill building on the outskirts of Saltaire Village, a world heritage site near Bradford, along with an office in central London. Established in 2009 and by Chris Pickard, the practice has developed and grown over the last decade into a dynamic multidisciplinary design studio of highly experienced and motivated architects, architectural technologists, surveyors, interior designers, CGI artists and landscape designers combined with an experienced Structural Engineering Department and Principal Designer services. As a Chartered Practice with the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT) and as a corporate member of the Association for Project Safety, One Design Architects provides commercial and domestic customers with a complete range of multi-disciplinary architectural, structural engineering and principal designer services for all scales of project, across the United Kingdom. “One Design Architects offers all clients the option of a talented, experienced multi-disciplinary one stop shop,” explains Chris. “We offer clients a design service covering all works from project inception to final completion. The scope of works we offer includes feasibility, concept and speculative sketch studies, Local Authority planning applications, Building Regulation submissions, tender documentation, construction drawings, contract administration services, and issue of final record drawings.” O The firm’s complete services include feasibility studies, master planning, strategic planning, concept and developed design, planning, building regulations, tender and construction drawings, interior design, landscape design, principal designer, structural engineering, civil engineering, condition surveys and measured surveys, 360, CGI and 3D modelling, with VR and AR technology. One Design has incorporated BIM into its working procedures, using Autodesk Revit, to minimise coordination issues as well as increasing accuracy and productivity. “BIM is an intelligent 3D model-based process that gives all construction professionals the insight and tools to more efficiently plan, design, construct, and manage buildings and infrastructure,” Chris elaborates on this innovative technology. “In addition to this, the 3D models can give our clients, contractors and wider design team, an easier understanding of the building design and can be used as a basis for producing the CGI images and animations – to visualise the designs.” Recently, One Design was recently recognised in the BUILD Awards for its commitment and bestowed with the prestigious title of Architect of the Year 2022 for West Yorkshire. Chris and the team are delighted with this accolade which is testament to the hard work and dedication of the firm since its initial inception more than a decade ago.
