BUILD Q2 2019 40 WR180080 ecently, we caught up with Natali Canas del Pozo who provided us with a detailed insight into how the firm creates innovative designs which surpass their clients’ expectations. Established in 2010, El EQUIPO CREA- TIVO’s core value at the studio is the idea that space tells stories, creates sensations and experiences. The firm works closely with their clients to provide the best translation of their gastronomic, commercial or hospitality concepts. Therefore, every new project is a challenge that starts with a thorough visual investigation. This methodology of work always leads the team to unexpected ways to create new solutions, specific and surprising for each project. Go- ing into further detail about the firm, Natali begins by informing us of the importance of providing a high-quality service to their clients. “For us, it is very important to maintain constant contact with our clients and to fully understand what his needs are; our objec- tive is to design a ‘custom-made suit’ which fits with perfection their hospitality concept, their target clientele, the location and surroundings in which we find ourselves.” When discussing the firm’s overall mission, Natali highlights the steps the team take to deliver successfully every project undertaken. “Here at EL EQUIPO CREATIVO, we design with a lot of freedom and start every new project from scratch, given that we are not trying to follow any design trend or create a very recognisable style of our own with which to be identified. For this reason, our design might end up having a longer lifespan and differ from the rest by having their very own personalities. We always try to create atmospheres that evoke an idea, rather than mimic one. In addition to this, we try to avoid being too literal in order to create atmospheres which, rather than copy, evoke that concept. We like experimenting with materiality, colour, texture - pushing them to the limits. They may be conventional, but we reimagine them in unexpected, conceptual ways. It’s about finding the right balance between technology, sophistication, and craftsmanship.” Creating a Sense of Place EL EQUIPO CREATIVO are an interior design, and architecture studio based in Barcelona and specialised in gastronomic and hotel spaces as well as brand and commercial projects. R With the firm’s approach to a new design setting a basic yet strong concept, as such the team take the time to find qualities to make a specific project special. Natali is keen to discuss the key factors which enable the firm to stand out from their competitors. “Each one of our projects is unique. This is because of the cul- ture, history, some specific qualities of the city and the landscape shaping the finished product. Architecture always play a very important role in our concepts, as they are very rich and vast areas to explore and find inspiration. Therefore, our design always has a sort of ‘sense of the place’.
