BUILD Q2 2019
61 Q2 2019 BUILD Mar19238 ince inception, Tomasz Maker’s aim has been to expand the traditional process of marbling’s potential as a surface design and patterning process, by ex- panding the materials it can be applied to, which will allow it to be used on items beyond books. From decorative wall panels to furniture decoration, as well as interior decoration and surface patterning in general, the team at Tomasz Maker using the random nature of the traditional marbling process to create unique and bespoke designs for clients. Going into further detail, Tomasz begins by informing us of the benefits from using the marbling process to turn objects into beautiful design pieces. “At the moment, we primarily focus with marbling onto timber since it is a widely used material for interior design, and objects for both interior and exterior use. With marbling these items and spaces, they can be decorated with a variety of colours and patterns which were used in books. “The variety of patterns and colours available allows for a vast amount of personalisation, which means people can have sur- faces that match almost any and all spaces. The patterns and colours can be easily recreated if multiple pieces are wanted. Although the patterns of all the pieces will be similar, however due to the uncertain nature of the marbling process, none of the pieces will have the exact same pattern. This unique feature results in no two people having the exact same print, as both prints will have individualistic details, making this a bespoke process.” Over the years, the team at Tomasz Maker have worked with a diverse range of clients. When discussing the individuals have served since their inception, and still continue to serve, Tomasz highlights how the firm approaches new clients and how the team creates lasting relationships with the people they work with. “Many of the individuals we have worked with waned single bespoke items decorated or made, which have ranged from old furniture, new furniture and wall panels. In addition to this, we have also been used by small businesses to decorate signage and panels. Creating Striking and Juxtaposed Pieces Tomasz Maker uses the traditional process of marbling, which had been predominantly used to decorate paper for book binding. Following their success in BUILD’s Design & Build Awards where they were recognised for Excellence in Bespoke Furniture Design, we profiled the company and caught up with Tomasz Lipinski who provided us with a detailed overview of the award-winning firm. S “We usually meet clients at shows and exhibitions where they are able to see our work in person and are able to answer their questions immediately.” Looking ahead to what the future holds, Tomasz signs off by revealing the exciting plans which lie in the pipeline for the firm, touching on the hopes of expanding the business with new materials. “Over time, our aim is to continue expanding the materials with which we can marble onto, for example, we have recently been able to marble onto slate. By expanding onto new materials, we will hopefully open up new avenues for development and opportunities. “Ultimately, our process is perfect for working on unique, be- spoke jobs such as individual items or projects, as well as small scale batch production. Moving forwards, we wish to keep with the traditional process with doing the prints by hand, by which we achieve the unique nature of our patterns.” Contact: Tomasz Lipinski Company: Tomasz Maker Address: High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, United Kingdom Telephone: 07779787749 Web Address: www.tomaszmaker.com
