Upon graduation, Celia decided to stay in the Big Apple, joining one of the world’s top interior design firms, and launching her distinguished career in hospitality design. She went on to design many award-winning hotels, restaurants, spas, service apartments, and clubhouses around the globe. Since 2007, Celia has led a team of talented design professionals at her namesake interior design firm, collaborating with a variety of clients on many prestigious projects, including the Rosewood Bangkok, Intercontinental Hotel in Semiramis Cairo, Egypt, the Ambassador Hotel in Taipei and several Hyatt brand hotels throughout the Asia-Pacific region. Celia’s work has appeared numerous times in many international design publications including Interior, GQ Taiwan and Modern Decoration. With core values of meticulous detail, exceptional technique, and environmental responsibility, the team at Celia Chu Design & Associates strive to put their heart and soul into every project to deliver fresh ideas to luxury hotels, restaurants, and high-end residences. Every project is its own piece of art with a distinct story to tell. CCDA’s comprehensive services encompass everything from architecture and interiors to products and landscapes, all infused with a touch of local culture. Founder and Design Principal, Celia Chu established the company to bring cutting-edge design with eternal style to the hospitality sphere, creating spaces that are both modern and enduring. Celia says, “As a hospitality designer, I not only value visual aesthetics but also prioritise understanding market demands and deficiencies. I enjoy collaborating with different clients and brands to create unique experiences and foster innovation. Over the years, we have accumulated rich experience in design and devoted significant effort to market research. Recently, while designing residential buildings, I thought about how to integrate this design ethos and philosophy to offer distinctive living experiences. “I’ve noticed that many current residential buildings or hotels offer overly standardised designs and products at a rapid pace. As I delve into diversifying, we will focus on providing distinct living experiences that align with the future, ones that are healthier, more relaxing, and not solely fixated on visual appeal.” Passionate about cultivating a culture of environmental responsibility and innovation, this involves incorporating recycled products as well as collaboration between clients and sustainable suppliers to realise their natural vision. The firm is excited to keep challenging itself to select sustainable materials for green architecture and promote its benefits to clients and contractors. Celia Chu’s design philosophy leverages her experiences in both Taipei and New York City which have shaped her perspective on architecture and design. From Taipei, she developed her respect for humanistic values which fostered a design ethos centred on balance and harmony. The energy of New York infused Celia with creativity, encouraging her to push past conventional boundaries and spin unique narratives with her designs. These influences have guided her approach to projects throughout their conception. Art also plays a crucial role in the firm’s design projects, helping to express the clients’ core vision and the overall design taste. Celia says, “To us, artwork is not just about separate pieces such as individual sculptures, objectives, or paintings, but it’s a more integral aspect of our designs using different elements to artistically fuse within a space. I particularly enjoy supporting and providing a platform for local artists through our design projects. Additionally, lighting is a crucial aspect of our designs, enhancing its allure. We work closely with Unolai Lighting to create romantic lighting atmospheres in the space. We also collaborate with Preciosa and Lasvit to craft bespoke lighting fixtures for each project.” CCDA’s newest endeavour will be luxury service apartment projects which will fuse the elements of hospitality design with the scale and details of elegant residential units. These projects will allow the company to leverage its past experiences to create sophisticated spaces that will blend luxury, functionality, and pure comfort. Ultimately, a combination of inspired creativity and comprehensive design has distinguished the company as a major player in the interior design industry.
