34 Build Q3 2018 pecialising primarily in structural and civil engineering, DECON has built a reputation on the back of Fulvio Jara- millo’s tested thirty-year experience in the engineering and construction sectors. Founded initially to act as an extension of Jaramillo’s JF Engineering, working out of Colombia, DECON has grown to become a recognised innovator in the sector, outgrowing its predecessor. At the heart of this success is Jaramillo himself, serving the joint respon- sibilities of President and Engineering Director, he has been the predomi- nant driving force behind the business, spear-heading development and growth. Graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1984, at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Colombia, Jaramillo became a Specialist in Structural Engineering in 1999, at the Colombian School of Engineering. In 2006, he earned his Master of Science in Civil Engineering in 2006, with a major in Structures, from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia. Keeping with academia, Jaramillo has punctuated his career with tenancies at his alma mater, Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, as a Professor lecturing in prestressed concrete applications and bridge design. Since graduating, he has held management positions working within the infrastructure, petrochemical and heavy industries. Supplementary to this, Jaramillo is a published author with works discussing the benefits of axially loaded stainless steel. As a chairman of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and member of the Structural Engineering Institute (SEI), American Society of Highway En- gineers (ASHE) and the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), Jaramillo is a notable and active member of the community – held in high esteem by his peers. Summarising all of the above, Jaramillo has made his name in effective project development and management – overseeing international pro- jects of all sizes. It is this key experience which lends itself to DECON’s enduring success. Perhaps more importantly than all of this, DECON LLC is a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise, created by Jaramillo from the ground up. No small accomplishment, by any means.
