Q4 2020

27 Q4 2020 BUILD he current paradigm for wind energy is focused on large onshore and offshore wind farms, whose energy is fed into the grid. To account for the noise, turbulence, and sheer size of the turbines, they are usually installed a long way from the cities and towns where the power is being consumed. While these wind farms can produce multiple megawatts of power and have clearly improved over time, they remain inefficient and intrusive on the natural environment, while being located a long way from the people they serve. Since the power generated from these wind farms is delivered to clients through the grid, they are also subject to the blackouts and brownouts associated with the grid. Increasingly, building managers, architects and CEOs are looking for Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) as a source of energy for their buildings. Being able to produce the power they need for their building onsite gives them energy independence, predictability and resiliency. With no transmission costs, it also saves money. Many of the largest companies in the world have made net-zero pledges and invested millions in an attempt to achieve that goal. For most, installing solar panels on their roofs or on green spaces on their campuses has been the only option. While it can be a productive contributor, most have found that solar installations alone simply cannot produce enough power to help them reach their goals. The Hover array system was designed to bridge the gap – merging the impact of wind with the onsite power generation of solar. The vertical axis turbine is designed to be mounted on the roof of buildings. It’s compact (approx. 3m tall & 3m diameter) aerospace design integrates with building systems and produces grid-forming power anywhere in the world. It also produces 3X-8X the power per square foot than solar panels, depending on location. For customers looking to reduce energy costs and become energy independent, this innovation represents a significant breakthrough. For many clients, a Hover Energy array would allow them to make renewable energy the primary source of all power for the building, with the traditional grid power serving as the backup source of power. Now that’s what we call an “energy transition” from the current status. Bridging the Gap in Renewable Energy As renewable energy becomes more and more integrated with daily life across the world, the expansion of the industry has also found itself in need of more innovative solutions, particularly in the wind energy sector. While wind energy has several advantages over traditional solar panels, including the ability to produce power 24/7, there are several factors that have, until now, frustrated customers. Hover Energy LLC is working tirelessly to address these customer frustrations, and has subsequently been recognized in BUILD Magazine as the Most Innovative Wind Power Generation Technology Firm of 2020. Today, we dive deep into the firm’s products and processes to find out which innovations it has delivered, and where the industry could be going next. T Aug20166 According to Chris Griffin, President & Co-Founder of Hover, the company is focused on developing solutions that can make power more personal. “We have discovered that true value in the marketplace is released exponentially when relationships are strongest. Both our products and our partners have unlocked untapped potential in those relationships and we are honored that Build Magazine has recognized the unique discovery our product has contributed. Hover Energy has formed long-lasting and strong relationships with JLL and Jabil, two of the largest property management and manufacturing services companies in the world. Through this collaboration, Hover Energy can scale its production and effectively reach the built environment. It’s solutions are customized for each client based on their specific set of power needs and circumstances. For building owners and tenants interested at all in resiliency, power independence, cost reduction and sustainability, Hover Energy is helping. Looking to the future, Hover Energy has a plan for methodical and exponential growth that is manageable, collaborative, and executable at every level. The Company will continue to explore how industries can be better aligned to unlock the potential of distributed power systems. Jabil and JLL have been those partners for the past several years, with companies like Shine & RealTime Group joining the team more recently. No doubt, others will be invited into the mix. Ultimately, Hover Energy is one of the leading companies in this growing industry, bringing the power of wind to more people than ever before with innovations that are changing the way we all think about power.
