Q4 2022

Q4 2022 BUILD 23 grout pads, and holding down bolts within the layout to be replaced and altered to accommodate the new components and to allow for the gauge to be corrected. Another challenge during this delivery was management of the risk presented by COVID-19; detailed risk assessments were produced and implemented onsite, including the provision of a ‘COVID pack’ for every member of staff at the start of every shift containing new PPE and disinfectant. Welfare facilities were above and beyond the normal requirements, and included a 24hour cleaning team to ensure the site was as safe as possible. Also a notable project completed by Railtech Innovations was to install train stopping sensors to the face of the Heathrow Express trains’ designated platforms in Paddington Station. The designer had a specified a point cloud survey to be undertaken so that gauge clearance could be assessed beforehand. Some concourse features were also required for designing the power units, so a 3D laser scan was the way to go. A platform that is full of history and designed by one of the greatest engineers of all time, Isambard Kingdom Brunel, all the rail engineering firms were fighting for this job – So, it was a great achievement for Railtech Innovations to be commissioned it! Then there were the canal tunnels as part of the Thameslink programme, where the scope was to fit out the 2,650-metre tunnel bores that went below St Pancras Station and surfaced in York Way, north of Kings Cross Station. The new connection would then link the Thameslink network to the East Coast Main Line. On this project, the Railtech Innovations team were the lead engineers supporting the principal contractor, Carillion Rail, and they were responsible for: simulating tunnel conditions with a test track for perfecting best practices; installation and management of the survey control network; design data preparation and development with designers; logistics planning and programming; setting out using the latest in track trolly technologies (Amberg GRP 3000); utilisation of Rhomberg’s track support systems; and quality assurance and development of inspections and test plan procedures. Over 1,500 metres of new slab track was installed including a DV crossover, and all track was installed within NR tolerance limits first time, on time, and under budget. Ultimately, it’s easy to see how Railtech Innovations has come to achieve the highly deserving title of ‘Rail Engineering Services Provider of the Year – UK’, with its dedication to spearheading the railway industry. This is through its long list of ground-breaking project completions thanks to its devoted team and their access to and extensive skill in using cutting-edge technology. We are truly rooting for this company as it continues to work towards making the UK’s railways the most innovative in the world.
