Real Estate & Property Awards 2024

BUILD Real Estate and Property Awards 2024 Grosvenor: Best Philanthropic Real Estate Investment Management Agency 2024 - North America & Urban Property Development Sustainability Champion of the Year 2024 (USA): Tanja Milosevic The Grosvenor family’s association with property began in London in 1677, when land to the west of the city came into the family following a marriage between Sir Thomas Grosvenor and Mary Davies, heiress to the manor of Ebury. This union set the wheels in motion for centuries of property development and placemaking, from Mayfair in 1720 – which has Grosvenor Square at its heart to this day – to Pimlico and Belgravia in the 1800s. Grosvenor embarked on its first significant international investment in 1952 with the acquisition of Annacis Island in Vancouver. Three years later, Grosvenor opened Canada’s very first industrial park. From here, the organisation continued to grow, investing in other parts of North America – such as Hawaii – as well as Australia, the Asia Pacific region, and Continental Europe. At the end of last year, Grosvenor’s AUM in North America alone totalled more than US$3.8 billion, comprised of office, retail, industrial, mixed-use, and residential properties. Such a diverse portfolio has been built according to the core values of integrity, respect, and trust – three cornerstones of this international business. Combined with the global knowledge and local insights of its teams, Grosvenor approaches property ownership, development and design seeking to balance commercial success and social responsibility. “We are dedicated to promoting sustainability in the built environment and enhancing the wellbeing of our customers and communities.” Sustainability has been a common theme across Grosvenor’s projects over the last several decades, with the organisation setting a company-wide goal to reduce emissions in line with limiting global warming to 1.5°C. In North America, this commitment can be seen most recently at Grosvenor’s 7.9-acre, low carbon, master planned development in Metro Vancouver, Brentwood Block. Delivering 1,730 net zero operational carbon homes (a figure inclusive of 1,279 rentals, 204 below the market rate), as well as a community centre and 200,000 sq. ft. of commercial space, this project will deliver housing at scale while also exceeding local sustainability requirements by utilising electric appliances throughout, in addition to space heating and cooling systems, LED lighting, and smart thermostats. This undertaking also aligns with Grosvenor’s 2030 net-zero goals. When it comes to Grosvenor’s North American property business, the advancing of these goals Few organisations have as much experience in the fields of urban property, food and agtech, rural estate management, and philanthropic initiatives as Grosvenor. With a track record of almost 350 years to its name, this is a firm that has cemented its legacy by developing, managing, and investing in properties and places across some of the world’s leading cities. For centuries, Grosvenor’s activities have been guided by doing the right thing and driving lasting commercial, social and environmental benefit. largely rests with Tanja Milosevic, Grosvenor’s Associate Vice President, Sustainability. Having joined Grosvenor in 2013, Tanja not only helps the business pursue both its World Green Building Council’s 2030 Net-Zero Carbon Buildings commitment and its recently published net-zero pathway targets, but she also runs Grosvenor’s Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark reporting in North America and was a founding member and is former chair of its employee-led DEI committee. As its recent North American net-zero pathway targets show, Grosvenor’s commitment to global decarbonisation is being seen through deploying clean energy solutions and using more green building materials over the course of its transformative, innovative projects, like Brentwood Block. Across its long, tenured history, Grosvenor has always been at the forefront of the cities and communities it serves, and its ongoing sustainability efforts are a recent example of this. It is a privilege to feature this international organisation, as well as its very own Tanja Milosevic, in our Real Estate and Property Awards 2024.
